Happy Memorial Day!
As you may know, we work for the United States Navy and my father was a 30-year career Naval officer. John & I are truly honored to support the Sailors, Seabees, and Naval Officers of America and extend our heart-felt thanks to all the men and women who continue to make daily sacrifices so that we can enjoy freedoms in America that are unknown in much of the world!
My mom and step-dad had a wonderful garden party to celebrate Memorial Day, and this was our contribution.

Before we tossed the salad |
This recipe comes from John’s sisters. We’ve featured it before, but it bears repeating. It’s a perfect warm-weather salad with layers of flavor from vegetables, salami, cheese, and Caesar salad dressing.
I’ve never had Ben & Jerry’s “Chubby Hubby” ice cream, but when I saw this recipe, I knew I had to make these brownies for my brother! They have great texture and are filled with chopped up Chocolate-covered Peanut Butter Pretzels from Trader Joe’s, topped with Peanut Butter Buttercream Frosting, then even more crushed Pretzels.
The original recipe was for an 8 x 8-inch pan, but I knew my brother wouldn’t share, so I doubled it and baked them in a 9 x 13-inch pan!
As it turned out, my entire family loved them! The base brownie recipe is so good that I’m going to adopt it even without the crushed pretzels. I highly recommend using Penzeys Cocoa Powder.

Susan, both the tortellini salad and the brownies look fantastic. The brownies look so dense and fudgy!
By the way, I am really looking forward to the Turkish recipes. 🙂
I’m so glad you enjoyed the brownies! Yours look AMAZING. 🙂 And your tortellini pasta salad looks soooo good!
