Mmmm…Bacon! |
We found French Green Lentils at Monsieur Marcel in LA. |
This week’s French Fridays with Dorie challenge is for Orange-scented Lentil Soup. Wow, this soup had so much flavor! I was pleasantly surprised.
Hot bread, fresh from the oven! |
It was an uncharacteristically chilly day at the beach. Fog swirled all around the house and blocked the warmth of the sun. So, I mixed up a loaf of French Herb Yeast Bread from King Arthur Flour, set it to proof, lit a fire, and cuddled up with my cat while the soup simmered on the stovetop. It smelled so good with the spices and citrus shining through.
This was a perfect comfort meal that warmed us from the inside out. The blend of flavors was remarkable and was only heightened by the tang of sour cream and saltiness of bacon. Oh, and the hot, fresh bread with butter – yum!

Happy St. Paddy’s day…almost. Your next “date squares” look amazing…I need something like that right now. The lentil soup in your photo looks so pretty…guess I never thought of lentil soup as being pretty before. It’s getting hot here…94^ today, but made this last week when 10 degrees cooler. I think I’m about finished with hot soups for awhile. We liked the good flavors in this soup and you are right, this is a good comfort food for a day when you need to cuddle up.

We served our soup with fresh bread too. Genius minds think alike, right?
Perfect for a cold winter day.

This soup had amazing flavor! Wish I would have served it my Portmeirion bowls — yours little very appetizing. (I love my Portmeirion… I’ve been collecting it for many years and have never gotten tired of it!!)

The mix of lentil soup and fresh made bread is perfect Susan! It seems we all had more or less cold days when we had this soup.

Great looking bread to go with your soup and I see you enjoyed the bacon. Glad it came on a chilly day for you. Nice when it works out to fit the day.

Oh, homemade bread! Looks delicious. My dinner is in the oven now (20 mins left to go) and all these posts along with the smells coming out of my kitchen are just killing me. I should know better by now than to check out FFwD while hungry.

Oh yum!! Fresh homemade bread and a lovely bowl of lentil soup…a perfect meal!!
Susan, Anytime you are in my neck of the woods, I would be honored to have you sit around my kitchen table!! I’m really looking forward to meeting you and John in September! Have a great weekend!

Yup, perfect comfort food…especially with homemade yeast bread! Happy weekend!

There’s nothing better than homemade soup with homemade bread!

Oh, man, that sounds great! This is exactly the way I would want to eat this soup – not with the 80-degree weather we had this week! Both the bread and the soup look amazing. What a delicious meal!

If the soup didn’t pull me in (and, it actually did), the French Herb Yeast Bread certainly did. Unfortunately, I made this soup during an 80 degree temp day here in Nevada but it didn’t dampen my enthusiasm. However, your atmosphere sounds a little more condusive to yummy soup and hot bread. Heading off to bed with my Pensey’s and King Arthur catalogues. Getting ready to place my Colorado order……everything fresh.

Great looking bread to go with your soup. I must try the lentil soup – we love lentils in our house.

As usual, the presentation is perfect. That herb bread looks so delicious. Tricia and I are so excited to be going to Seattle,
and believe it or not, we are actually going to Paris next month, but Seattle is going to be such fun. We are going to do the Normandy coast and the Loire Valley plus about 5 days in Paris at the end. This old lady can’t take too many more exciting
excursions. Only kidding, I love traveling. Have a great weekend.

Though yours looks delicious, I wasn’t enamoured with this soup. The bread looks great though. There’s nothing like oven hot bread with a bowl of soup. Yum!

Nana and I are SO excited that we will get to meet you and John in Seattle. What an adventure !!! Now your soup – gorgeous as always. I just love how you sprinkled the bacon all around- I do think the smaller bacon bites are the way to go as opposed to my pieces of smoked kielbasa or the chorizo I have also seen- just a matter of scale. I also enjoyed reading about your nesting during these chilly days and enjoying your cat’s company. I can not tell you how much joy our not so little anymore kitten has brought to our lives. The dogs have settled in with him and we all just love him to death. Don’t know how we got along without him. As I prepped and cooked this soup he had jumped onto a kitchen stool to watch the whole process. Made this FFWD all the sweeter for me 🙂
