Key Lime whipped cream |
This week’s Baked Sunday Mornings challenge is for Sunrise Key Lime Tarts. These tarts are really easy to make. Eating them is like having a Margarita for dessert. The crushed pretzel crust is like the salt on the rim of the glass and the creamy filling has Key lime juice, Tequila, and Grand Marnier in it!
Someone from Florida is probably going to flip out, but I think this would be just as good with our beautiful California limes. The only change I would make is to make 6 tarts instead of 8 since they were a little flat.
On Saturday, we took our niece, Chelsea, to lunch at a funky Mexican restaurant and Tequila bar in downtown Ventura called “El Rey Cantina.” Replete with black velvet Elvis paintings and chandeliers draped with every size and color of bra you can imagine, it’s a renowned Tequila tasting bar. They have the best tacos and we think this would be a perfect dessert to add to their menu!
Cheers! |

My daughter went to Florida a few years ago to visit an old-time girlfriend of mine, and she had key lime cheesecake…just loved it. I have to try it, I can find limes here in Sicily.

Those look incredible with that super creamy lime curd. I can only find limes from Mexico, never Florida or California.

Great pics, Susan. Your tarts looks wonderful.

I love your chunky pretzel crust! Both you and Candy both did flatter tarts that turned out so pretty – and are probably a more reasonable serving size.

I agree, the restaurant needs it on their menu. These look delicious, Susan, And, that lime blossom – to die for. It’s been snowing heavily for 2 days and we’re looking at another 2 to 3 days of snow. We need the moisture terrible so we cannot complain. But, for blossoms, not so good. I hope you are having a ball on your cruise.

What a great idea for the crusts! I like it much better than the usual graham cracker crust. They look beautiful and I can taste their tartness from here!

What a beautiful tart! And I agree, I think this would be equally lovely with lemons or limes of any variety. The crust is so unique!
