There are nine new houses in our neighborhood at Oxnard Shores Beach. The houses were built over a period of four years and we were the fifth family to move in, so half of our neighbors were here before us, and half after. People in beach neighborhoods tend to be friendly because we spend a lot of time outside. We’ve been blessed with considerate neighbors and we all get along.

Because everyone was so patient for the 8 weeks it took to put in our backyard, and they all asked about it, we waited until it was warm enough to have everyone over to see and enjoy it. Several of our family joined us, too.
| For this delicious dip: Mix 1 cup Sour Cream with 1 tsp Vanilla, and 1/4 cup Brown Sugar.
It’s great with all kinds of fruit.
We wanted to keep things simple, so we decided to grill hamburgers and hot dogs and provide all the fixings. Almost everyone offered to bring something so we had a great variety of food – more than we could all eat! One of the things I wanted to serve was my mom’s Black Bean & Corn Salsa. And, I was lucky enough that my mom came over and made it for me.

Our new backyard is perfect for entertaining. We added a fountain, deck, grill, bar, firepit, and curved bench. Everyone had such a good time that they’re all talking about when we can get together again.
There was so much food, it would take ages to describe it all, but you get the idea! A great summer gathering with great food and great friends!
