Salzburg, Austria |
We’ve had a truly amazing year! In April, we traveled to Germany and cruised the Danube River through Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary.
Huckleberry Finn, the Christmas cat! |
We also said goodbye to our beautiful cat, Braveheart, in April after loving him for 12 years. In May, we adopted two really cute brothers, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Gracie, out outdoor kitty, is going on 17. Each cat has such a unique personality and we love them all.
In June, our Nephew, Jordan, married his love, Melissa in Claremont.
We were furloughed over the summer and went without pay for 1 day every week for six weeks. We made the most of it by taking day trips from LA to Santa Ynez. We enjoyed a family vacation in July at Laguna Beach. And took a short trip to Pasadena for a romantic weekend and a bit of antiquing in August.
Dorie surrounded by Doristas! |
In September, we traveled to Seattle for the International Food Bloggers Conference where we met Dorie Greenspan, her husband, and several of our fellow Doristas! After cooking together and corresponding for three years, this meeting was beyond our imagining. We all felt like old friends at a reunion instead of people meeting for the first time. As a result of all the contacts we made at the conference, we’ve been invited to sample several products and review several new cookbooks which has added a fun new dimension to our blog!
Anne Willan signing Christina’s books |
I also had the opportunity to meet Christina, from Christina’s Cucina, many of the Los Angeles Food Bloggers, and Anne Willan at a book signing event for One Souffle at a Time.
Oak Alley Plantation, Louisiana – approaching from the river |
In November, we headed south where we spent 4 days in New Orleans before taking a cruise on the Lower Mississippi River on the American Queen Steamboat. Although John lived in New Orleans before moving to London during high school, I had never been there so it was an amazing journey of exploring the city and his history.
The Lester Family at Jonathan and Janae’s Engagement Party |
In December, we headed to La Jolla where our nephew Jonathan married his love, Janae. In between all of this, we made multiple trips to Clovis to visit John’s family. And this December, we celebrated my brother’s 50th birthday!
My brother, Michael, & me at the Overseas School of Rome Reunion in Glendale, California 1985 |
This year’s Top Five is going to be a little different. With all of our blogs being hit constantly with spam and random hits, the stats are not a reliable indicator of the top posts, so our categories are different this year. Our most popular posts are those with the most comments from you.

Happy New Year, John and Susan. What a year you two have had and I sense that the year ahead is going to be just as fulfilling and invigorating. Yes, I’ve noticed that you’ve lifted your blog up a notch or two or three. It was wonderful to meet you and John last April and again in October in Seattle. Real and virtual friends. I look forward to seeing you in Cambria this Winter. 2014 Hugs. (This is my second comment. Don’t think first one took.)
