I only wish it tasted as good as it looks! |
Penzeys Cinnamon Sugar & Scharffen Berger Chocolate |
Appearances can be deceiving…this week’s Baked Sunday Mornings challenge is for Cinnamon Chocolate Souffles. I love cinnamon and chocolate, so I was really looking forward to trying these. I used high quality ingredients and they turned out beautifully.
BUT, the look on John’s face when he took a bite told me something was wrong. I asked him what is was but he couldn’t really describe it, so I took a bite. It was bitter and salty, as if I’d left the sugar out of the recipe. I’d love to say we enjoyed this, but we didn’t. I think it would have been wonderful if it had been made with milk chocolate instead of dark, but I don’t think I’ll give it another try any time soon.
I read and re-read the recipe and I followed it perfectly. After making over 100 Baked recipes successfully, this was a surprising disappointment.

Whoops. You don’t have many misses and you definitely don’t have many misses with Baked Sunday Mornings. You’re allowed. It happens. Thanks for being honest.

I love that you posted this anyway, Susan! Just goes to show that your other reviews of recipes are trustworthy. That’s a shame, as it’s so disappointing to go to all the trouble to make something like a soufflé and not have it come out well. Maybe there was a typo in the recipe that caused the problem, you never know, but like you said, with all the other recipes you’ve made, this is a drop in the bucket! 🙂 CC

Interesting.. that it didn’t taste good, because it looks really great 🙂

I didn’t like these either, but I’ve never made or eaten a souffle before, so I thought it was just because of that. But maybe the recipe was off? I kept wishing I was eating a brownie 🙂

I had the same experience, Susan. I guess they all can’t be winners!

Sorry these didn’t turn out great for you, Susan. 🙁 Not my favorite recipe either, but they were fine. I think there was too much cinnamon in the recipe (making them a little bitter), and the baking time was way off. Mine took about 15 minutes to cook through, and it looks like most of us had the same experience. A valiant effort anyway– Better luck with our next recipe!

So glad I wasn’t alone in being disappointed with the way these turned out. Bummer!

But they look so good!! That’s a shame. So maybe it was a good thing I was sick this week and couldn’t make this recipe. hmm.

Oh…sad day. But thank you for helping me make shorten my baking list by one recipe!

I like the idea of milk chocolate, they might not be as bitter. Yours look great by the way – no cracks like most of us. I’m sure the fact that I’m not a chocolate person had something to do with it too. Ha. On to the next! 🙂

Your soufflés look perfect, so disappointing that the flavor was lacking!
