Cookbook Review & Giveaway: Spices & Seasons

May 30, 2014 by susanelester

Rinku Bhattacharya’s second cookbook, Spices and Seasons

This is third and final week of the Blog-off sponsored by Hippocrene Books to celebrate the release of Rinku Bhattacharya’s second cookbook, Spices and Seasons.  The first week, I made Classic Green Mint Chutney, and last week, we made Shrimp in a Mango Basil Sauce. And, this week, we’re hosting a giveaway for a copy of Rinku’s new book, so be sure to enter for a chance to win!

Rinku’s style is a natural fit with Create Amazing Meals – she grows her own vegetables and combines flavors in wonderful and unexpected ways.  Several of her dishes are easy enough to make on a weeknight.  If you love Indian food, or are just looking for new ways to prepare fresh food for your family and friends, this book would be a great addition to your collection.  To get a better idea of her cooking style, visit her blog, Cooking in Westchester.

Shrimp in a Mango Basil Sauce.

If you’re not familiar with Indian cuisine, Rinku gives a gracious introduction in the first chapter called “Learning the Essentials: An Approach to Indian Cooking” where she discusses key ingredients and flavors.  Her writing style is conversational and her instructions easy to follow.  I love that each recipe is accompanied by a full-color photo so you have a good idea of what the finished dish will look like.

For your chance to win a copy of Spices & Seasons, leave a comment below with a link to your favorite Indian recipe, or one you’ve been wanting to try.  Be sure I have a way to contact you or your entry won’t count.

Enter by midnight on Tuesday, June 3rd.  I’ll announce the winner on Wednesday and you’ll have until Friday to reply.  If I don’t hear from the winner by then, an alternate will be selected on Saturday.

Best of luck!

Oh, wow – to choose only one Indian dish I would like to make? That is tough, as Indian is one of my most favorite cuisines. I guess one thing I would love to master is a perfect korma – whether chicken or lamb. Other things are being able to serve a full thali, and to make my own paneer. Oh, and malai kofta. See? I cannot simply pick one! 🙂 Thanks fro the opportunity to win! xo, David

The only Indian food I’ve cooked before is curry. I’d love to try making butter chicken next! Maybe with this recipe here: http://www.food.com/recipe/indian-butter-chicken-86753
