Okay, so I did pipe the frosting, but I don’t think they’re too girly! |
Chocolate Stout and Dutch Processed Cocoa Powder |
Bridget at Bake at 350 is a super talented baker and artist. I admire her talents but rarely feel as though I could manage one of her unique creations. But, when I saw this recipe on her Dessert for Dudes post, I knew I could easily tackle these manly cupcakes. And, I am so glad I did. They were so easy to make and are, quite possibly, the best cupcakes I’ve ever made!
The velvet chocolate cake is imbued with Stout – I used Chocolate Stout and Bridget used Vanilla Stout. She gives the option of making the frosting with all butter, or half shortening – of course, I used all butter. If you’re looking for a unique treat for your dad, husband, or brother, I highly recommend these! You can find the recipe here.

I think these are the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen on your blog! Of course, chocolate stout is my favorite thing in the world, so I’m a bit biased 🙂

Chocolate and stout have got to be one of my favorite things too. Beer is really so amazing for cooking and baking. Gorgeous cupcakes Susan! The chocolate pretzel is not to be missed

Not being a beer drinker, I have to say that this is the best sounding use of beer in the world! I had not before heard of chocolate stout… and am now wondering if I might like drinking it! ~ David

These look outrageous, manly not girly at all. Never have heard of chocolate or vanilla stout. But, I never pass on beer. In fact, today at the Food & Wine Classic, I was hanging out at the Stella Artois booth. Yes, I see the teeny seeds and might copy the pretzel decoration idea. Fun post, Susan. Yes, I’ve been to Halaszbastya, Fisherman’s Bastion. Loved that little area of Budapest.
