Goat Cheese & Strawberry Tartine ~ French Fridays with Dorie

June 7, 2013 by susanelester

Perfect Springtime Lunch!

This week’s French Fridays with Dorie challenge is for Goat Cheese & Strawberry Tartine.  It’s super simple and wonderfully delicious!  One of the things I’ve enjoyed on our traipse through Around My French Table is trying unusual flavor combinations.  This one really surprised me.  I had no idea how sweet Balsamic Vinegar could make strawberries taste.  And the texture – creamy, silky, and crunchy!

Perfect Oxnard Strawberries!

The next time we have a party, I will definitely make a petite version of these for appetizers.  They’re quick and easy to put together and so good & refreshing!

Bon Appetit!

I love balsamic and fruit – its one of my favorite combos. For me, the revelation was how well strawberries and goat cheese pair.

This looks incredible. I’ve never had balsamic with strawberries. Will have to try.

Such a good mix of flavors and textures indeed! I really love pepper and ripe fruit together…esp with cherries which I tried this with.

I can´t wait for strawberry season and sweet berries to appear again. This is a fantastic tartine Susan! But tart strawberries totally ruin it.

Yes, Dorie had gotten me to combine ingredients that I never would have thought of together: avocados and pistachios, endives and grapes, etc.

I have some really nice flavored balsamic vinegars from a local shop and have enjoyed trying them on different foods. But this one was new to me, too. Such a great combination!

Wow – what a great combination! I am sad that our strawberry season has passed but am hopeful for some from other areas close by. ~ David

This one was amazing and so simple, wasn’t it? I’m waiting for the next invite to a pool party to make these again!

Wasn’t this crazy good ? My guys all loved it and could not believe it had the pepper and vinegar added ! I actually made myself a big plate for lunch the following day and devoured it all. PS- my basement cleaning resulted in our cat finding out there is a ping pong table under all the mountains of crap I had stored. It is his new favorite game and none of us can play without him jumping on the table to join it- it is hilarious. Gosh we love that little kitty…..

Just a bit of trivia for you, Susan, and John. There are about 200 seeds on each of those gorgeous strawberries in your third picture. Isn’t that amazing? We are getting your wonderful strawberries here at Whole Food. Not as good as your Oxnard berries fresh from the fields but almost. You’re right, we have tried some unusual flavor combos. Most of them have worked. I know it’s been a hectic month since getting home from your cruise – lots going on with family and at work. Congrats on your recognition at work, Susan. But glad that you are back at FFWD.

What a great photo of your tartine. I ate this for dinner, and then breakfast, but you are right that these would be a hit at a party!

This one surprised me too! I loved the balsamic vinegar as well and the way it accentuated all the flavours!
