Hello, Doristas!
Did you miss us? We sure missed you! It’s been a long time and a total life transition for us. We’ve both retired – and we moved from SoCal to East Tennessee – from a brand new beach house to a house built in 1855 in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains!

So, we’re ready to jump back into blogging with Dorie Greenspan’s newest (13th!) cookbook, Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook. The first recipe we made is My Newest Gougeres. Gougeres are delicious little appetizers and were the first recipe we made from Around My French Table eight years ago! They’re crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.  They’re delicious and addictive – studded with crunchy toasted walnuts and seasoned with cheddar cheese and French mustard!

Although they’re typically served with wine as appetizers, we served them with Butternut Squash Soup for a flavorful fall meal.

Take a few moments to see how our fellow chefs did at Cook the Books Fridays! We’re looking forward to exploring Dorie’s new cookbook and to catching up with all of you!
Happy Autumn!
I think you found the best dish to serve these with! I ate nearly 30 of them though. I’m full. But I want more. I do. Great to see you out here again!
Nice to meet you, Susan! Lovely gougeres! Looks delicious with the butternut soup. What a beautiful house!
Yes !! You two were missed and I am so delighted that you will be joining in this new adventure. I am looking forward to catching up on more than just recipes and of course seeing more photos of dishes staged in your new, old house. The gougeres turned out amazing and the soup was a great way to go. Yay !
Yay!! Welcome, Susan! Mary had told me about your moving away from my area of the world–it sounds like such a great adventure! The photos look fabulous and your home as well!
Nice to have you back! I hope all has been good for you both, and you are loving your new life! Not much is changed here… I just keep plugging in enjoying good food, good wine, and good friends!
Gorgeous home, gorgeous meal. You had me at spicy sugary bacon. What a wonderful combination with the salty Gougères and the squash soup. Happy to visit you again on this new Cook the Book Fridays adventure! 🙂
So great to see you here at the Dorista cocktail party! Welcome back! I have served the gougères with soup too and it’s SO good!
Oh my gosh, Susan. We’ve missed you and glad to see you back on the inter webs.
Every once in a while, my job brings me to Newport – its such a lovely part of the country, I hope you are well settled in!
So glad you and John are joining in again! Your new house is the perfect place to create amazing meals! Gougeres and soup sound like a delicious lunch.
We missed you so much! I think these would be terrific with soup, although I enjoyed them on their own with a glass of wine.
It sounds like you and John are making the most of early retirement. Here’s to cooking together again. 🙂
I am so glad to see you blogging again. Although I’ve been keeping up with your new adventures in Tennessee, I am happy that we’re having the opportunity to blog together again. And, what a coincidence that I served these delicious gougeres with butternut squash soup also. Your photos look fabulous as usual. You both haven’t lost your touch, that’s for sure. I am not even wondering if you are liking retirement. I already know you are enjoying every single day and making the most of it. Sending love from snowy Aspen to the two of you. XOXOX Mary
